Saline Spikers Exit in Semis at Frankenmuth

The Lady Hornets’ amazing volleyball road show came to an end Saturday at the Frankenmuth Invitational.

The Hornets fell in the semifinals to North Branch, 25-21 and 25-20.

Saline opened pool play with victories against Frasier (25-23 and 25-9) and Swan Valley (25-10 and 25-16) before losing to North Branch (25-19 and 25-16).

Saline advanced past Freeland in the quarterfinals (25-21 and 25-13) before falling to North Branch.

“This was our third straight weekend tournament and after winning the previous two. I was concerned that we might have a letdown,” said Saline head coach Lisa Shea.  “There were times today when we played very well, but there were other times when we were very flat.”

Shea said the team needs to find a way to battle through tournaments like these.

“This is when we need to start working on gritting our teeth and focusing, even when we not have the kind of energy we would like. It all comes down to consistency. The best teams have it and the good teams want it,” Shea said. “We are a good team. I know we want to be more consistent and now is when we really need to work on getting it."

Kenzie Shand led Saline with 47 kills and 13 blocks. Margo Main helped at the net with 26 kills and eight blocks. Ani Agbabian had 13 kills and 20 digs.  Taylor Whitling recorded 106 assists and 11 digs. Natalie Sheridan had 44 digs. Kara Rogers (14 kills), Sidney Fletcher (15 digs), and Ashley Richmond (17 digs) also contributed for Saline, which plays Tuesday night at Bedford.
