Fair Fun at the Farm Council Grounds

 

The 77th Saline Community Fair ramps up for a week of fun at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds.

The fair officially begins Tuesday, but participants begin dropping off still exhibits and rabbit and poultry Monday.

Livestock judging begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday with rabbits.

The fun begins at noon Tuesday, when gates open. Rides open at 2 p.m.

Tuesday at 8 p.m., 15 rising seniors compete for the title of Miss Saline.

Here are highlights from the week.

On Wednesday, senior citizens 65 and older are admitted free until 1 p.m. Highlights include a senior citizens program , antique appraisals, and the Saline Area Schools Ag Olympics.

Thursday is for preschool-aged kids.  Admission is $5 from 9 p.m. to 2 p.m. The fee entitles youngsters to kiddie rides from 11 p.m. to 2 p.m.  After 2 p.m., the regular admission price is $7. All rides for all ages are $1 each. Ann Arbor Hands On Museum will have an exhibit opening at 9 a.m. The big event Thursday night is the SJO Motorcross show at 7 p.m.

Friday is Ladies’ Day at the fair. Activities include the Ladies’ Day Program at 1 p.m. and the “Saline’s Got Talent” show at 6 p.m. The cement slab tractor pull takes place all day long.

Fiddlers’ ReStrung plays at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday is Children’s Day. There is a children’s parade on the grounds at noon. Cirque Amongus takes place from 1-4 p.m. The Cottonwood Cloggers perform at 6:30 p.m. and Brenda Loomis performs at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday is Ag Day at the fair. Sample locally produced foods during the Taste of Agriculture, from noon to 3 p.m. The Saline Rotary Club Steer Drawing takes place at 8 p.m. The USA Auto Enduro Derby takes place at 6 p.m.

The fair continues Monday with rides and an antique tractor pull.
