Saline Area Players Barn Storm at Harvest on the Farm

The Saline Area Players put on a variety show at Harvest on the Farm Sunday afternoon.

On “stage” in the big barn at the Rentschler Farm Museum, the community theater group entertained with a mixture of new work, reprisals of recent productions, and previews of upcoming plays.

Given that the Saline Area Historical Society puts on Harvest on the Farm, the most fitting show of the day was “A Boy Named Orange,” written by young Linus Babcock, the son of Leo and Barbara Babcock. Linus plays young Orange Risdon, who can’t seem to find any respect. Risdon, the founder of Saline, can’t seem to win any respect from his family and grows tired of being teased about his colorful name, so he vows to leave and do great things, and one day have a statue made in his honor.

The Saline Area Players also previewed the upcoming production of Steel Magnolias, reprised a skit from last March’s Carol Burnet Show, and presented music from the upcoming spring musical, Willy Wonka.

The Saline Area Players is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2012-13. Catch Steel Magnolias Oct. 26-28 at the Liberty School Auditorium, the Best Christmas Pageant Ever Nov. 29-30 and Dec. 1-2 at Stone Arch Arts and Events, and Willy Wonka April 19-21.
