Members of the Michigan Athletics family, local personalities and philanthropists, as well as personal friends and family of Chad Carr are preparing to hit the dance floor as part of ChadTough’s brand new Dancing with the ChadTough Stars, the ONLY event of its kind to benefit The ChadTough Foundation!
The inspiration for this event, 5-year-old Chad, lost his battle with the deadliest form of cancer, Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), in 2015. This type of brain cancer is responsible for more than 15% of ALL pediatric cancer deaths in the United States. The ChadTough Foundation is committed to inspiring and funding game-changing research to discover effective treatments for pediatric brain cancer, with an emphasis on DIPG.
Dancing with the ChadTough Stars, presented by The Kensington Hotel and Russell Video Services, will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at The Kensington Hotel, 3500 S. State St. in Ann Arbor. Limited tickets may be purchased via ChadTough.org with ALL net proceeds benefiting the foundation.
One of the most notable dancers in the line-up is 14-year-old C.J. Carr, dancing in honor of his brother, Chad. Grandson of former Michigan Hall of Fame football coach Lloyd Carr, C.J. is stepping out of his comfort zone in an effort to help raise funds and awareness for the disease that took his brother.
The event’s 13 other performances will include dancers such as former Detroit Tiger Andy Dirks, Jiffy Bakich (wife of University of Michigan baseball coach Eric Bakich), and Amanda Ruddy, who lost her son Tommy to DIPG in 2017. Each dancer has set up a personal fundraising page to help raise dollars for research.
“I can’t even imagine the heartache the Carrs have been through,” said Andy Dirks. “I’m completely impressed with how they have managed to turn their heartache and devastation into blessings for other families and future generations. I’m honored to be part of their efforts.”
