The CP Holiday Train is expected to run through Milan Saturday evening.

Dressed in Christmas and winter decorations, the illuminated train is expected to leave Windsor, Ont., around 6:30 p.m. The train will traverse a tunnel under the Detroit River, enter the United States, and travel through Wayne County before it runs through Milan in the southeast corner of Washtenaw County on its way to Chicago.

Last year, the train roared through Milan shortly after 11 p.m.

There are two CP Holiday Trains running through Canada and the United States. The transportation company is collecting food and money in support of the fight against hunger.

For those who want to get a closer look at the train, it's stopping in Windsor around 5:20 p.m. at the CP Yard located at Erie Street West and Janette Street. A starting at 6 p.m. features the music of Alan Doyle (formerly of Great Big Sea) and the Beautiful Band. The Essex County Foodbank Association is collecting non-perishable food items.

Since 1999 the Holiday Program has raised almost $16 million (Canadian) and collected 4.5 million pounds of food for communities in Canada and the United States.

People along the route stop to take pictures and video of the CP Holiday Train. For safety reasons, CP Rail officials ask people to stay at least 50 feet away from the tracks.
