The annual Miss Saline Pageant takes place during the Saline Community Fair, at 8 p.m., Aug. 29.
There are four candidates in the pageant this year. They are Ashley Desimone, Brittany Bryant, Claire Weadock and Courtney Zmich.
Bryant is a senior at Saline High School. She has a love for the arts. She not only performs in the chamber choir, she is president of the choir program. She is a leader in several organizations and a member of the Washtenaw Youth Initiative, a group of student leaders from schools across the county. Bryant plans to pursue a degree in vocal performance.
Desimone is a junior whose favorite activity is running. She's been a runner since seventh grate. She also loves reading, writing and photography and is a self-proclaimed history nerd. She earned a Silver Medal in Girl Scouts. Desimone is passionate about language - especially Spanish - and hopes to focus on it in the future.
Weadock is a Saline High School senior who was selected as publicist for the Saline High School Orchestra. She is a liaison to the Saline Youth Council, where she volunteers to better the community through several programs. Weadock is a member of the ethics team which made it to the quarterfinals last year. She plans to study dermatology at the University of Michigan.
Zmich is a senior with leadership experience in the National Honor Society, DECA, student council and STRIVE. Zmich has danced for 14 years with the Dance Alliance Repertory Company, where she performs with the competition team. Her hobbies include baking, cooking and walking her dog. Zmich's ambition for the future is to be happy, be the best version of her self and to lead a life of which she is proud.
The Miss Saline Pageant is open to Saline women between the ages of 16 and 21. Miss Saline and her court will earn more than $4,000 in scholarships donated by local businesses and organizations.
The pageant was founded in 1948.
