With the wave of a wand, the magic of the holiday season illuminated downtown Saline Tuesday evening.
About 100 people gathered around the Christmas tree at Michigan Avenue and Ann Arbor Street to kick off holiday festivities.
Event emcee Kim Kaster, owner of Brewed Awakenings, gave a “magic wand” to one-year old Anna Hamilton. As she shook the wand, the lights on the decorated Norway Spruce tree lit up as the crowd cheered.
The Saline ice hockey team led the crowd in a couple of Christmas carols.
Mayor Brian Marl made brief remarks.
“I just want to wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Happy Hanukkah,” Mayor Marl said. “We’re delighted to have you. This is a beautiful tree. We look forward to seeing you around town during the holidays and hope to see you this Saturday at 5:30 p.m. for the 44th Annual Saline Christmas Parade.”
