Saline Area Social Service (SASS) is joining this year's #GivingTuesday global initiative on Tuesday, November 27th, and is asking for help to raise $25,000 for its continued efforts in providing food and emergency assistance to over 300 individuals living within the Saline Area School District.
With the support of Reinhart Charitable Foundation and The Buhr Foundation, those who donate to Saline Area Social Service on November 27th can double their impact, up to $12,500. Both Reinhart Charitable Foundation and The Buhr Foundation have pledged to match donations dollar for dollar, totaling $12,500. Reinhart Charitable Foundation has pledged to match the first $5,000 in donations in support of a cookie sale fundraiser at Reinhart Realtors Saline office on November 27th. Those donating $20 or more by cash or check will receive a dozen cookies from Reinhart Realtors Saline office and double their impact of their donations. The Buhr Foundation has pledged to match an additional $7,500.
"Since Saline Area Social Service is 100% community funded, we heavily rely on the assistance of the Saline community throughout the year." said Executive Director, Jamail Aikens. "We're energized by the enthusiasm and support we continue to receive from local businesses, churches and families, especially as we get closer to one of our busiest times of year."
With approximately 1,000 Saline area families living below poverty level and 500 students receiving free or reduced lunch every day, Saline Area Social Service serves low income families and individuals living within the Saline Area School District.
"The majority of the individuals that need our help don't qualify for food stamps since they are either working full-time on minimum wage or are seniors living on fixed income with high medical bills," said Aikens.
Because of the strong level of support from the Saline community over the last few years, Saline Area Social Service is now able to ensure that any individual who comes to them for food will not go hungry. In addition to supplying food, the organization provides its clients with paper products, laundry detergent and personal care products. The staff and volunteers also deliver weekly pantry items to seniors who lack the transportation make trips to the pantry, and in partnership with Saline Area Schools, the SASS fills backpacks with healthy snacks, such as granola bars and shelf stable milk so that all students can have healthy snacks at school.
Adding to the pledges received from Reinhart Charitable Foundation and The Buhr Foundation, there are a handful of other businesses and community organizations that are rallying around Saline Area Social Service to show their support on #GivingTuesday. Truck Hero, The City of Saline and The Saline Police Department are just a few who have initiated internal campaigns with their employees to help raise money for Saline Area Social Service on November 27th.
Those who are interested in donating to Saline Area Social Service on #GivingTuesday are asked to deliver donations to Reinhart Realtors Saline office at 1020 E.
