On Saturday, April 1, 20 youth and adult leaders from Boy Scout Troop 446 in Saline participated in a clean-up day at Historic Fort Wayne during the Civil War Trust Park Day. Civil War Trust Park Day is a yearly event with thousands of participants across 38 states. In Michigan two sites participated, Historic Fort Wayne and the River Raisin National Battlefield.
The day was spent cleaning fallen branches and debris from the recent storms, picking up trash and preparing the fort for the many events that happen throughout the summer. During the event, the scouts were able to earn the Historic Trails Award. The Historic Trails Award emphasizes cooperation between historic societies and the Boy Scouts. To earn the award, scouts must camp two days on site. They also must cooperate with a historic society to restore part of the site. For this event, the scouts worked with the Historic Fort Wayne Coalition.
