Toya Madeski won a brand Chevrolet Trax from Crispin Chevrolet and Saline Rotary Club. But, since she and her husband both have relatively new vehicles, she opted for a $5,000 cash prize instead.
Last week, members of Saline Rotary Club and Debbie Crispin presented Madeski with a check for $5,000. Madeski had bought her raffle ticket from Jerry Cotner.
“I would have loved a new vehicle, but both me and my husband recently bought new cars,” Madeski said, before smiling. “$5,000 is still nice though.”
For several years, Saline Rotary Club and Crispin Chevrolet have partnered on the car raffle. Crispin Chevrolet offers 50 percent of a two-year vehicle lease. Saline Rotary uses raffle proceeds to their share of the raffle.
At Oktoberfest, Debbie Crispin and Rotary Club President Tiffany Fitzpatrick took to the stage to draw the winning ticket. Crispin held the bucket of tickets as young Christian Schneider reached in to pick the winner.
Proceeds from the raffle go to the Rotary Club’s local scholarship program.
“Last year, we were able to donate four $1,000 scholarships and four $500 scholarships,” said Jill Durnen, secretary of Saline Rotary.
Saline Rotary also funds local, regional and international projects – everything from Boy Scouts to eradicating polio.
