Saline’s Summerfest – one of our community’s premier annual events – is seeking new volunteers to help again bring this super hometown celebration’s activities and attractions to the streets of Downtown Saline this coming summer.
Saline’s Summerfest 2018 will happen on Friday and Saturday, August 10 and 11. It will bring back popular events of past years – including live entertainment, a classic car show, a crafts and art show, blackjack tournaments, kids’ games, a teen block party, a historical trolley tour, and a multitude of eats and treats, plus more. New attractions in the works are to be announced.
Saline’s Summerfest was previously Saline’s Picnic in the Park. For nearly two decades, it took place in Saline’s Mill Pond Park on the banks of the Saline River. In 2006, the event’s organizers expanded the event’s attractions, renamed it Saline’s Summerfest, and moved it to Downtown Saline, where it has delighted crowds from near and far ever since. The event’s dedicated volunteers, working behind the scenes, have ensured its success over the years.
“Summerfest has had an amazingly stable crew of enthusiastic volunteers,” says Jim Hill, one of the longest-standing members of the event’s organizing committee. “Though some long-time volunteers are now retiring. This has created opportunities for new volunteers.”
Specifically, the Summerfest 2018 committee is looking for community members to help with:
- Following up with recurring sponsors, and finding a few new sponsors
- Publicizing and advertising the event
- Updating the event’s website
- Serving on the event’s board of directors
- Helping to recruit and manage volunteers
“The good news,” says Hill, “is that there’s a long, long history, with established procedures, for all Summerfest volunteering activities, so new volunteers will have a running start. They can build on what’s already there without having to start completely new things from scratch.”
Those interested in volunteering are invited to attend the next meeting of the Saline’s Summerfest 2018 organizing committee on April 19 at 7:00 pm at the Saline Area Fire Department’s station house at 205 East Michigan Avenue. Otherwise, volunteer candidates can contact Jim Hill at 734-368-1944 or email@example.com to explore the possibilities.
