F. Joan Kiessel, 92, of Saline, MI joined Our Lord peacefully on Friday, April 26, 2019. Joan was born on March 22, 1927, in Saginaw, MI to the late Michael J. Hart and Wilma (Slinkard) Hart. Joan was married to William R. (Bill) Kiessel on January 22, 1949. She is survived by Bill and her five children, Margaret (Michael) Morrow of East Lansing; Robert (Judith) Kiessel of Plymouth; Laura (Joseph) Meyecic of White Lake; Martha Walts of Ypsilanti, and William D. Kiessel of Palmetto, FL. Joan was blessed with eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Irving Hart, Rev. Fr. Harry Hart, Richard Hart and twin sisters, Doris Hart and Virginia (Hart) Fisk.
Joan was a wonderful homemaker and accomplished seamstress. She was a member of Christian Mothers to uphold the dignity of Catholic wives and mothers, and The Christ Child Society to serve at-risk children of the greater Cleveland area. As a Christ Child member, Joan volunteered in many capacities at the Cottage resale shop and sewed infant bereavement gowns. She was a trained beautician who shared her talents at local nursing homes and with numerous family members. Joan enjoyed playing Skip-bo and Yahtzee and spending time at the family cottage. Joan was an avid reader who taught many of her grandchildren to read, swim and dive.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Saline, MI with a luncheon to follow. Visitation will take place from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass at 11:00 A.M. Burial will take place in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, MI at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association, Michigan Great Lakes Chapter.
