Building Confidence and Community: Travis Pointe Country Club’s Approach to Junior Golf
At Travis Pointe Country Club (TPCC), junior golf goes far beyond learning swings and keeping score. It’s about teaching life skills, building character, and creating a supportive environment where young players grow both on and off the course.
Led by PGA Head Golf Professional Rocky Mullendore, the TPCC junior golf program has earned a reputation as one of the region’s most consistent and well-rounded developmental programs. Over the course of his career, Mullendore has coached more than 1,500 junior golfers, with the program averaging over 90 participants annually for the past four years.
One standout success story is Zane Rueger, who began working with Rocky at the age of four. Today, Zane holds the No. 1 ranking in Michigan for the Class of 2030 and is ranked No. 70 worldwide for his graduating class. Supported by Titleist and FootJoy, Zane’s accomplishments on the tournament circuit are impressive—but both he and Rocky are quick to point out that his development is about more than tournament results.
“It feels like home,” says Zane. “The coaching, the friendships, and the encouragement I’ve received here have made a huge impact—not just on my golf game but on who I am as a person. The program has given me confidence, discipline, and a lot of fun along the way.”
Rocky adds, “Zane’s journey shows what’s possible when a young athlete combines personal drive with family support and the right coaching environment. But Zane’s story isn’t unique here—he’s an example of what we hope all our juniors experience.”
TPCC’s junior golf program is designed for all skill levels—from beginners picking up a club for the first time to highly competitive junior players aiming for tournament success. The club offers a variety of entry points for juniors, including: Clinics and Camps, Private Lessons Tailored to Each Player, PGA Jr. League Team Play, and Year-Round Indoor Practice with TrackMan Technology.
Beyond skills and training, TPCC’s junior golf culture focuses heavily on fun, friendship, and sportsmanship. Many families note that the program helps kids develop responsibility, confidence, and the ability to work toward personal goals.
Looking ahead, Mullendore envisions continued growth for the program, with a focus on building an even stronger pipeline for junior golfers to progress from beginner levels to competitive play—all while fostering a lifelong love for the game.
