Saline Community Fair Has Many Activities

 08/30/2017 - 00:08

Unfortunately the inclement weather forced the cancellation of the Pet Show, the Bicycle Decorating Contest and the Fair Parade, but all the fair activities for the remainder of the week will begin on Wednesday. The 2017 Saline Community Fair will feature many traditional activities as well as several new ones throughout the fair week, August 30 to September 4.  The fair is held at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds, 5055 Ann Arbor-Saline Road, Ann Arbor.

Wednesday, August 30 is Agriculture Day and it features the judging of all animals at various times between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.  The Cement Slab Tractor Pull will take place on the track in front of the grandstand throughout the day and evening. The rides open at 3 p.m. and the Miss Saline Pageant begins at 8 p.m.  The Merchant’s Building, exhibit areas and food booths will be open throughout the day and evening.

Thursday, August 31 is Children’s Day and it will be a day full of fun for all ages of fair goers. There will be special children’s activities throughout the fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to noon. These include Touch a Truck, Hand and Hand Music, Twist and Shout the Clown, Art Tables, Farm Related Games and Activities, Washtenaw County Farm Bureau Ag Activities, Make Your Own Ice Cream, and Animals. There will also be ride specials for ages 6 and under from noon to 3 p.m., and all rides will open at noon.  The Lawnmower Obstacle Course Contest, open to all youth age 10 – 18, begins at 3 p.m. in the horse arena. The tractor and wagon is provided for this contest. Farmer John and his interactive live animals will be doing three shows at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.  Stick horse races will take place at 5:30 p.m. in Barn F.  Rounding out the activities on Thursday are the Jr. Livestock Auction at 7 p.m. and the Super Kicker Rodeo, also beginning at 7 p.m. in front of the grandstand. The auction provides an opportunity to support local youth who raise animals. The Super Kicker Rodeo has a great following and promises to be an exciting event. The Beer Barn will also be open Thursday evening from 5 p.m. to midnight.

All exhibits and entries that are on display will be judged by Thursday and the merchants, vendors and food booths will be open.  Fairgoers can register to win one of fifteen donated bikes which will be given away to lucky winners. Entry forms can be deposited throughout fair week into corresponding containers located with the bikes in Building C on the fairgrounds. The forms are on the website and available at local sponsors and at the fair. Winners do not need to be present.

Visit the fair website at www.salinefair.org for information on admission and ride prices, as well as specials for each day.  Activity details and a complete schedule are also available on the website. Many local businesses have fairbooks and fair schedules.  You are also invited to follow the fair on facebook at Saline Community Fair. See you at the fair!
