Saline Boys Lacrosse Starts Strong Under New Leadership, Opens Season 2-0

Saline, MI – March 31, 2025 – The Saline High School Boys Lacrosse team has kicked off the 2025 season with two statement wins, defeating Northville and Divine Child in their first games under newly hired Head Coach Ty McGuire. McGuire, who previously coached at Concordia College, has made an immediate impact on the program, bringing a new level of energy and strategy. Saline also welcomed new assistant coaches Shane Derwa and a Hornet lacrosse alum, Colin Sears.

Saline opened the season on March 19 with an 8-6 victory over Northville. The offense was fueled by sophomores Nolan Heath (#11) and Rylan Stanton (#33), who each scored three goals. Senior Jon Jon Ohren-Hoeft (#1) and sophomore Garrett Male (#26) each added a goal to round out the scoring. Assists came from Jon Jon Ohren-Hoeft, Jack Fate (#30), and Jack Scarpati (#8). Goalie Owen Belote (#9) recorded nine saves, helping to hold off Northville’s attack in a tight battle.

On March 21, Saline secured a 9-5 win over Divine Child, with another well-balanced offensive effort. Senior Jon Jon Ohren-Hoeft led the scoring with four goals, while sophomore Nolan Heath followed with two goals and three assists. Sophomore Garrett Male added two goals, and Jack Fate scored one to round out the scoring. Owen Belote was a force in the net, making 17 saves to anchor the defense and shut down Divine Child’s attack. The game saw intense moments, but Saline remained in control and closed out the win.

On the defensive end, seniors Dylan Delaney (#7) and Drew Soupal (#37), along with sophomore Wyatt Page (#34), have established themselves as a formidable trio, disrupting offenses and limiting opponents’ scoring chances. Their aggressive play and leadership have set a high standard for the Hornets this season.

Saline looks to carry its momentum forward as they travel to Plymouth Salem on April 3 before playing their home opener against Bedford on April 7 at Hornet Stadium.
