Saline’s varsity volleyball team went 4-1 at their own tournament Saturday. Saline was perfect in pool play and then shook off some rust to beat Livonia Stevenson before falling to Northville in the semifinals.

After a couple weeks of playing down opening-night expectations, Saline football head coach Joe Palka watched his Hornets dominate Rockford, 37-24, Friday night at Hornet Stadium.

Josiah Davis was the fastest runner in the 3,200 meter JV race at the AA Running Co End of Summer Classic held Friday at Hudson Mills Metropark.

Even with their elite dive squad taking the day off, the Saline swim and dive team began their state title defense by winning the Huron Relays Thursday. Saline won the event with 414 points. Northville (372), Skyline (338), Huron (338) and South Lyon (330) rounded out the top five in the eight team event. Dexter (326), Pioneer (276) and Brighton (266) also swam.

The annual parade, which kicks off the 80^th annual Saline Community Fair, will be held at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 1. The parade isn’t returning to Michigan Avenue. Instead, it will begin at Henne Field on Bennet Street and then make its way down to Mill Pond Park, where organizers have planned several events and activities.

“You can’t go from August to the state championship game,” said Palka, who is 35-6 since becoming football coach and assistant athletic director/high school principal in 2012. You have to focus on getting a little bit better each day. It starts in the winter with conditioning into the summer. Then camp. Then scrimmages. You can’t focus past game one.”

School hasn't started yet, but a quick check of Twitter shows that students, parents, staff and administrators are busy at Saline Area Schools.
