5 Things to Do in Saline This Week

As the days get shorter, the to-do lists are getting longer. Such is the end of summer.

Take some time to enjoy life with your family and friends, right here in your community. Here are five events happening in and around Saline these weekend.

Saline vs Rockford Football

What: When we last saw Saline, nearly half the town followed the Hornets to Ford Field for the state championship game. These kids want to get back there and to do so, they're going to need to beat teams like Rockford along the way.

First Responder Classic Car Show

What: Like classic cars? Want to learn more about local firefighters and police? This event hits both those spots. Drive in your classic cars and compete for trophies. At the same event, you can watch Pittsfield Firefighters demo the "jaws of life." Oh yeah, Chief Hoeft and the SAFD will be grilling hot dogs.

Saline Farmers Market

What: Fresh veggies and fruits, plus baked goods and other locally produced goods.
Where: Downtown Saline, in the lot behind Benny's
When: 8 a.m. to noon.
Cost: Free

World War II Anniversary

What:  The public is invited to help celebrate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. There will be World War II veterans and "Rosie the Riveters" on hand.
Where: VFW Post 423, 3230 S Wagner Road
When: 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday

Luke Winslow-King Concert at Mangiamo

What: From New Orleans via Cadillac, Mich., Luke Winslow-King plays an eclectic mix of delta-folk, classical composition, ragtime and rock and roll. The New York Times described his music as­­­ “a boiled-down live, almost improvised, sound that seamlessly melds Delta blues, gospel and jazz themes with personal, simplified lyrics.”
