Gallery: Saline Goes 4-1 at Own Volleyball Tournament

Saline’s varsity volleyball team went 4-1 at their own tournament Saturday.

Saline was perfect in pool play and then shook off some rust to beat Livonia Stevenson before falling to Northville in the semifinals.

The Hornets started the day with a 25-12, 25-15 victory over Olivet. Junior Olivia Hesse had seven kills and senior Mackenzie Marchildon had four kills. Hannah Turner had three kills and two blocks. Zoey Ammon had 16 service points, including three aces, and 15 assists. Payton Cole led Saline with six digs.

Saline also defeated Brighton, 27-26 and 25-17. Turner led Saline with four kills and a block. Kennedy Ulfig, Hesse and Machildon each had three kills. Ammon and Sam Rickert each tallied eight points at the service line. Rickert recorded eight assists. Cole (10) and Emily Finkbeiner (6) led the team in digs.

Saline finished pool play with a 25-11, 25-20 win over Roosevelt. Marchildon led Saline with four kills. Turner served four aces and Cole served three. Cole also led the team with three digs. Rickert (5) and Ammon (4) led the team in assists.

The Hornets had a long rest between pool play and bracket play. They were rusty most of the first set and were down 23-21 before storming back and winning 25-23. Saline won the second set 25-10. Marchildon (7), Hesse (5) and Turner (4) led Saline in kills. Ammon recorded seven service points and nine assists. Rickert had 13 assists. Cole led the team with eight digs and Ulfig had four. Korbyn Koerner and Maddie Whitfield each had three blocks.

The Hornets fell to Northville, 25-16 and 25-18. Turner led Saline with five kills. Hesse had four blocks. Turner and Olivia Sovitch each had four points at the service line. Rickert had six assists. Cole (7) and Angie Szuminski (5) led the team in digs.

“We weren’t at our best in the Northville match. We can be better,” coach Kenny Seiler said.

Saline visits Skyline Tuesday for the SEC Jamboree.
