I recently read that the Ann Arbor–Saline Road project plans to flatten the hill near the church at the Ellsworth intersection to improve visibility. I would like to better understand the reasoning behind prioritizing this work over addressing the condition of Ellsworth Road itself.
Specifically, why isn’t the funding being directed toward repairing and paving Ellsworth Road between Maple Road and Ann Arbor–Saline Road? Improving that stretch of roadway, combined with the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection, seems like it would address both safety and usability concerns in a more comprehensive way.
As it stands, Ellsworth Road is in extremely poor condition—arguably worse than many seasonal roads in Michigan. Given that, it is difficult to understand the value in flattening a hill that has existed for decades while leaving a well traveled road in such disrepair.
I would appreciate any clarification on how these decisions are being made and whether improvements to Ellsworth Road are planned in the the future.
