SALINE, MI (June 16, 2020) Normally at this time of the year, Saline Main Street organizers and volunteers would be deeply involved in coordinating the nonprofit’s biggest annual fundraiser, Oktoberfest. But after much discussion and in keeping with trends across the globe, the group has made the decision to postpone the event for this year.

In a letter to the cultural event’s most ardent and faithful volunteers, chair organizers Katie Spence and Rebecca Schneider offered the following – “It is with a heavy heart that we have made the decision to cancel Oktoberfest 2020 this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As always, we appreciate each and every one of you and are so sad that we have to wait until 2021 to Tap the Golden Keg.”

Munich, Germany has also canceled its Oktoberfest event for 2020.

Saline Main Street's Board of Directors and staff are keeping a close eye on the pandemic and local impacts across the state and country. News about the downtown organization’s other signature community events will continue to align with the status of regional public health recommendations. In the meantime, the organization’s priority will remain centered on business retention and recovery in the wake of the COVID-19 quarantine.

The downtown nonprofit group has raised more than $26,000 in relief funds for Saline small business since March 2020.
