Saline senior Brendan Murphy had a solid junior year at tight end, using his strength to help block, hands to make TD catches, and surprising big-man speed to barrel his way into end zones. With Andrew Diuble and Emmett Turner graduated, that leaves Murphy has the most experienced receiver on the squad - even if he’s a tight end.
Last year, he caught 14 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns.
At a summer scrimmage, when QB Andrew Arbaugh needed a big play, he looked to Murphy. It’s a role that Murphy likes.
“It feels good to be the guy that they look to to make plays,” Murphy said.
Coach Joe Palka said “Murph” is an important player on a young offense that needs leadership and big plays.
“He’s a great leader who does a nice job blocking and who has great hands. He runs faster than he’s given credit for and he’s hard to tackle. He’s a tough kid and one of the studs on this team,” Palka said.
