Brian Coughlin, Father of Two, Was An Accomplished Accountant

Brian T. Coughlin, son of John and Margaret Coughlin, passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018. He is survived by his son Patrick D. Coughlin (Gina), son Michael E. Coughlin (Marie), brother Sean Coughlin (Sherri), and brother Barry Coughlin (Virginia).

Brian a native of Baltimore, Maryland, graduating from Calvert Hall College High School and obtaining his bachelor’s degree from Loyola University.  Brian achieved his Certified Public Accountant license in 1981 and started his career at the Arthur Andersen accounting firm.  A few years after becoming one of the youngest partners in the firm’s history he was transferred to the Detroit office and moved to Saline, Michigan in 1994. Brian continued to practice in the Detroit area joining Ernst & Young in 2001 and retiring as partner in June of 2018.

Brian has been a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church since 1994; where he served as financial director, usher and as a member of the Knights of Columbus. Brian's passion was helping others, working side by side with organizations like the CATCH charity for children where he served as Treasurer, the American Cancer Society, and as a fundraiser for St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. When Brian was not working he enjoyed boating on Lake Charlevoix, horses, critiquing his golf game, and snowmobiling.

Brian’s true love was his family.  Traveling, coaching, or just spending time with family was when Brian was at his happiest.  A dear colleague, friend, husband, and father Brian will be missed by a large community of loved ones; for which he was a pillar. 

He is preceded in death by his wife Lynne Coughlin and his parents John and Margaret Coughlin.

Visitation for Brian T. Coughlin will be held Tuesday, August 21, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, with a rosary at 7:00 pm at the Nie Family Funeral Home, 3767 W. Liberty, Ann Arbor, MI. A service will be held the following day, Wednesday, August 22 at 11:00 AM with visiting an hour prior at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 910 Austin Dr, Saline, MI.
