Chihuly Bubbles

Helen created this painting from a photo taken at the impressive Dale Chihuly glass sculpture collection in Grand Rapids. One of his Niijima Float water sculptures was her inspiration for this piece. The vivid colors and reflections emanating from the spheres, as well as the contrast between natural and artificial shapes, are captured in this beautiful painting. Look closely and you can see echoes of spherical shapes.

Sunflowers

In the summer, Hellen enjoys seeing the abundant sunflower fields throughout Michigan. The base of the painting and each individual petal, was created by collaging an assortment of handmade painted paper. This created interesting textures throughout the piece. The painting was completed by adding watercolor paint to the intricate layers of the collage.

Koi Pond

On a trip to Portland, Hellen visited the Japanese Gardens. It is known as one of the most authentic gardens outside of Japan. This painting was inspired by the beauty of the koi pond found among the gardens. Helen used yupo paper to create the vivid colors and beautiful patterns created in the water and koi fish.
