Two Twelve Arts Center, Library Invite Families to Build Hobbit Shire

The Saline District Library and Two Twelve Arts Center invite families to help build a home for local hobbits.

Painters, builders and more invited to help decorate the outside of the Hobbit Shire, which is this year’s joint art installation led by the Saline District Library and Two Twelve Arts Center.

Families are invited to join in the community art project from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in front of the library.

Local artist Keith McGuire is leading the project. He said people should dress with the expectation they’ll get dirty.

“Wear your grubby clothes because we’ll be gardening and painting,” McGuire said. “We’ll have projects for everyone.”

People will be invited to paint the 15 ceramic mushrooms created at Two Twelve Arts Center,”  McGuire said. “We’ll be painting and assembling the house all day to give it the right look. It’s going to be fun.”

Library Director Leslee Niethammer said the library will serve nutritious trail mix and cookies to boost creativity.

“Bring everyone in the family and have a good time,” Niethammer said.

The project is held in conjunction with the library's summer reading program.
