Alberta Rogers, 86, Directed Senior Center, Served on School Board

Alberta Mae (Robison) Rogers, of Saline, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, teacher and friend to many, passed away at the age of 86 on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at her home after a short illness.

A lifelong resident of Saline, she was born on July 13, 1926, the sixth child and daughter of Micah and Jessie (Rhodes) Robison. She graduated from Saline High School (1943) and Michigan Normal College (EMU-1947). On Sept. 7, 1946, she married Kenneth H. Rogers, Sr., who preceded her in death on February 5, 2000. She was employed as a home economics teacher in the Dexter and Saline school districts for over 10 years until retiring to raise her family, and worked as a substitute teacher in the Saline School System. As an active member of the Saline community she held positions including Saline Senior Center program director, Saline School Board trustee, member of the First Presbyterian Church of Saline, and past president of the Saline Historical Society.

She had many interests, which included the creation of beautiful floral arrangements, traveling, reading, and hosting celebrations. It was always important to her to include and offer a helping hand to others in need. Holiday meals often included an extra place settings to welcome in a relative or friend.

She will be remembered for her passion for community, her giving nature, and her overall enthusiasm for life, love, and beauty.

She is survived by her son Kenneth Harry Rogers, Jr. (Deborah) of St. Petersburg, FL, and her daughters, Elizabeth Ann Rogers of Chattanooga, TN and Laurie Jessica Rogers of Saline, former son-in-law Tim Park of Iowa, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Jason (Amy) Rogers and their four children, Elizabeth, Kevin, Sean, and Rebekah of Mandeville, LA, Brad Rogers of St. Petersburg, FL, Krista (Scott) Herrygers of Toledo, OH, Christopher Park of Ann Arbor, and Alexander Park of Saline, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Stanley Robison, Gertrude Robison, Ellsworth Robison, Theodore Robison and Gladys Braun.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Saline and a memorial service and celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 3 p.m. at the church with visitation to be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 3 p.m.

There will be light refreshments to follow.
