Saline Splits DH With Dexter

Saline's varsity baseball team split its doubleheader at Dexter Monday, winning 6-0 and losing 4-3.

The Hornets won the all-important first game. The first game of doubleheaders against SEC White teams count in the SEC Red standings. Saline improved to 5-2-1 in the SEC Red. The Hornets are 13-5-1.

Lefty Michael Hendrickson gave up just two hits and a walk while striking out 13 Dreadnaughts in six innings of work. He also drove in two runs. Eric Berki pitched the seventh, giving up one hit and striking out two batters.

Andrew White went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run and RBI. Gage Hammond went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI. John Malbone was 1-for-2 with a run and RBI.

Dexter won the nightcap 4-3 with a run in the bottom of the eighth.

Matt Willis started for Saline and left the game after 2 2/3 innings. He gave up two runs on a walk and five hits. Bryan Homberg went the rest of the way, giving up four hits, a walk and two runs in five innings. Homberg struck out three.

Saline managed six hits on Dexter's pitchers. Half of those were by DH Trent Theisen, who was 3-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Gage Hammond and Joey Sweigert also scored for Saline.
