Saline's Road to Ford Field Begins with Monroe Rematch

The Saline football team’s road to Ford Field starts with a rematch against Monroe at 7 p.m. Friday at Saline High School.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association playoff brackets were announced on the Sunday Selection Show airing on Fox Sports Detroit Sunday evening. Saline finished the season with an 8-0 record and 105.778 playoff points. Monroe was 5-4 with 58.2 playoff points.

During the regular season, Saline visited Monroe and won 28-0 to clinch the SEC Red championship. It was Saline’s lowest offensive output of the season one of three shutouts for the Hornet defense.

 

 

Josh Jackson completed 10 of 17 passes for 136 yards and three touchdowns (one each to Bryce Wolma, Jeb Palka and Zach Schwartzenberger). Stevie Kise returned a touchdown 68 yards for a touchdown.

 

 

Monroe rushed 57 times for 235 yards and completed just three passes for 18 yards. Saline rushed 17 times for 169 yards, led by Palka’s seven rushes for 88 yards.

Should the Hornets defeat Monroe they will host the winner of the game between Pioneer (6-3, 74.542 points) and Belleville (8-1, 99.778). The Hornets are looking for their third district championship in three years.

The winner of Saline’s district will play for the region three championship.  The Hornets would host the game unless Northville wins the district. Northville (9-0, 110.222) hosts Plymouth (6-3, 75.778) and Canton (7-2, 88.11) hosts Livonia Stevenson (6-3, 77.556).

Many of the teams in these districts have played this season.

Saline defeated Monroe and Pioneer. Pioneer defeated Monroe. In the other district, Northville defeated Plymouth (23-20) and Stevenson (24-13). Plymouth defeated Canton 31-20. Canton beat Stevenson 49-7.

Belleville is the only team who hasn’t played any other team in the region.
