The following news release was issued by the Pittsfield Township Police.

Updates on the roadway closure and reopening will be published through Everbridge, an additional press release, and social media.

Both east and westbound traffic on Ellsworth Road between State Road and S. Research Park Drive is closed, and public notification was made via Everbridge by Washtenaw County Metro Dispatch.

Pittsfield Fire is continually monitoring the air quality nearby. DTE is also monitoring for safety and working to halt the gas leak. Gas monitor readings do not reveal any public safety hazard at this time. Initial reports of an explosion were inaccurate, and fire suppression has not been necessary. The gas line is under high pressure, and upon release from the rupture, it gave an appearance of a possible explosion.

Ann Arbor Police Department is assisting. The University of Michigan Police Department issued an emergency notification due to University buildings being in the area.

Updates on the roadway closure and reopening will be published through Everbridge, an additional press release, and social media.
