Gerald “Jerry” Zapolnik, 57 of Saline, Michigan, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and uncle passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at his home.
Jerry is survived by his parents Carol and Dan Zapolnik of Grand Rapids, Michigan, his beloved wife and best friend, Sharon (Muck), his two adored children Sara and Gabrielle, his sisters Theresa Zapolnik of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Charyl (Paul) Bartocci, of Evans, Georgia, and Judy (Bob) Zapolnik, of Longview, Washington. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Jerry graduated from Shelby High School, Shelby, Michigan 1979 and began his career as a Paramedic after attending Grand Valley University in Allendale, Michigan in 1982. He went on to obtain BSBA in 1984 from Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan. In 2011, he received his MBA in Information Technology from Colorado Technical University.
Jerry joined Huron Valley Ambulance in 1989 as Manager of Support Services and during his many years of service was promoted initially to Vice President of Support Operations and then to Chief Operations Officer. During this time, Jerry was an active volunteer leader at the American Ambulance Association, serving as a member of the Board of Directors.
While Jerry’s career was cut short due to health issues, the legacy of his life’s work in Emergency Medical Services, and as a husband, son and father will live on in the many lives of those he touched by both words and deeds.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Saline with Fr. James McDougall as Celebrant. Military Honors will be held under the auspices of the Washtenaw County Veterans Honor Guard. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline with a Rosary Service to be held at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will again be held at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 11:00 A.M.
