Gov. Rick Snyder has ordered U.S. and Michigan flags within the State Capitol Complex to be lowered to half-staff today, Tuesday, Nov. 20, in recognition of Detroit firefighter Michael Lubig who died Monday, Nov. 12, following a medical emergency at the end of a 24-hour shift Thursday, Nov. 8.
"Michael was a fearless man who cared deeply about protecting the people of Detroit,” Snyder said. “Sue and I send our deepest condolences to his friends, family and colleagues during this difficult time.”
Lubig was a second-generation firefighter who joined the department in 1999. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, running and spending time with his wife and four children.
A service will be held in his honor today at 11 a.m. at Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, located at 9844 Woodward Ave. in Detroit.
This flag order is in accordance with Executive Order 2013-10. Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments and other organizations also are encouraged to display the flag at half-staff. Flags should be returned to full-staff on Wednesday, Nov. 21.
When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U.S. flag should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
Sunny, with a high of 86 and low of 60 degrees. Sunny in the morning, clear overnight.
Nice of the attorneys to clarify this language at this point rather than having the foresight to understand that language should never have been in the agreement to start with!
Perhaps the Township should have sought counsel from an attorney not involved in the original contract negotiations (and perhaps they did - do not know) before changing direction.
Final thought - perhaps the attorney(s) working with the Township on the agreement can provide an explanation as to why that language HAD to be as represented in the final version of the agreement/why protections against exactly what has happened were not put in place.
I’m curious as to why Mr. Marl has announced his reelection intentions, started campaigning and collecting funds, but has not done the paperwork to put his name on the ballot yet?
Marl says he's got his signatures.
Citizens of Saline are finally waking up to all the failures of our current city government. Girbach is bailing (for good reason).
Having sadly been involved in the last few years with the care of two family members after loss of their partners then dealing with settling the estates which is far more time consuming and complex than anticipated, can understand this decision and commend him for prioritizing family.
Sounds as if you have been and are a supporter of Swallow and felt he was good for Saline. Nice to hear. As for the other observations, hopefully some of the turnover, including Girbach deciding not to pursue another term (talk about negative), will prove to produce a more positive environment.
