WRESTLING: Poupore Earns Podium Spot at Ford Field, Fighting for as High as 3rd
Saline senior Danny Poupore won two before he lost two at the MHSAA Division 1 State Tournament. That guarantees him a place on the podium and all state medal.
Poupore, 51-3 and wrestling at 130 pounds, opened the tournament by defeating Hartland's Carter Hankins, by major decision, 15-1. In round two, Poupore lost a 6-1 decision to Jackson's Jared Riggins, who went on to advance to the championship match.
That put Poupore's back against the wall. With a win, he would clinch a medal and potentially battle his way back to a third place finish. With a loss, he would go home without a medal.
Pupoure wrestled Southgate's Logan Palshan (28-8) and won by decision, 9-1.
On Saturday, Poupore begins the day by wrestling Birmingham's Damon Dubar, 40-5. If he loses, Poupore will wrestle for 7th or 8th place If he wins, he'll get wrestle Romeo's Hunter Garris, 44-7, for the chance to wrestle for third place.
Poupore has more career wins than any wrestler in the history of Saline wrestling.
