Have You Seen Saline's Hobbit Shire?

The Hobbit Shire was created last Saturday, July 13 under the art direction of Keith McGuire, the “King of Hobbit Shires,” or so he claims. He’s really the lead artist of this year’s community art installation.

This collaborative venture between Saline District Library and Two Twelve Arts Center is now in its fourth year, and according to some, this is the best project ever.

“This could not happen without the participation  of our community, and this year we had 80 people join in.  They painted mushrooms, they planted flowers, they painted the bright windows and doors, and they had a wonderful time creating the Hobbit Shire, “ said Keith, who oversaw the installation.  “We invite everyone to come by and check out this wonderful addition to our summer reading program – 'Dig into Reading', which continues through mid-August.  Bring your cameras and pose in front of your favorite door,” invites Leslee Niethammer, the Library Director.
