Dodge Ride & Drive Event Raises Money for Cross Country Teams at Run-A-Thon
Saline’s cross country teams received a boost from Dodge and LaFontaine Chrysler Dodge Jeep Monday.
As the teams held their annual run-a-thon at Saline Middle School, LaFontaine Chrysler Dodge Jeep held the Dodge Ride and Drive event. For every test drive, Dodge donated $20 to Saline’s cross country team. In all, the event was worth up to $5,000 for the teams. The final totals were unavailable.
Carl Spina, head coach of the boys’ team, called it an awesome show of support from LaFontaine.
“I can’t believe it’s real. It seems too good to be true,” Spina said. “The LaFontaine family does a lot for the community, so I’m not surprised they are supporting us.”
Spina said the boys’ team will use funds to purchase uniforms, water battles and other items for the growing program. The boys’ team has grown from 81 to 96 runners. There are 140 girls running cross country.
Jeff Dowling, business development manager for LaFontaine Motors, said employees from Saline’s west end auto dealership were happy to volunteer time to set up and staff the event.
“This is cool. It’s great that Dodge does this to help support our schools and our community,” Dowling said. “And we’re happy whenever we see people behind the wheel of a new Dodge.”
