Police Identify Suspect in Theft of Children's Miracle Network Donation Jar

Chicks might dig your swag. But probably not if was purchased using stolen money earmarked to help sick children.

A 20-year-old Ypsilanti man’s “Chicks Dig My Swag” shirt helped Saline Police finger him as a suspect in the theft of the Children’s Miracle Network donation jar from the Speedway gas station.

The jar, containing close to $50, was stolen at approximately 11 p.m., June 12. The store manager provided police with a security video. Still images from the video showed the man’s “Chicks Dig My Swag” shirt and distinctive tattoos.

Saline Police Detective Don Lupi learned the suspect’s first name during the course of the investigation. Lupi used a police database to produce a list of names of young Washtenaw County convicts with tattoos on their arms and the same first name. He was searching the names on social media when he came across the photo of the suspect wearing the same “Chicks Dig My Swag” shirt and showing the same tattoos that were evident in the security video.

Police located and interviewed the subject who admitted to taking the jar, according to the police report.

The man faces a charge of larceny from a building.
