Aidan Muir, the 2013 Saline High School graduate and son of Dustan and Helen Muir, is now now property of the same NHL franchise that once feature superstars like Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier and Paul Coffey.

Muir was selected by the Edmonton Oilers with the 22nd pick of the fourth round (113th overall) of the NHL Entry Draft, which took place Sunday in New Jersey. Muir, unavailable for comment Sunday evening, planned to watch the draft from the family home near Saline.

Muir is likely several years away from earning a chance to play with the Oilers, who won five Stanley Cups in seven years between 1984 and 1990  -- before Muir was born. The first overall selection in the USHL draft, Muir plans to play with the Indiana Ice for a year before playing college hockey at Western Michigan University, where the Broncos are coached by former NHL coach Andy Murray.

Being drafted isn't a guarantee of an NHL career, but Muir wouldn't be the first guy drafted 113th overall to play in the NHL. Hall of Famer Pavel Bure was drafted in that spot in 1989. Former Red Wings Randy McKay and Mark Habscheid were also drafted at 113, as were goalies Roman Turek and Damian Rhodes. And Mike Eaves, father of Detroit Red Wing Patrick Eaves amd coach at the University of Wisconsin, was drafted at 113 in 1976.

The Oilers have missed the playoffs seven consecutive years but boast an incredible stable of young talent that includes Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, Nail Yakupov, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Justin Schultz.
