Saline Slams Bedford, Unbeaten in 8
The Lady Hornets varsity softball team won both games of a doubleheader at Bedford Thursday to improve to 8-0 this season. Saline won 14-0 and 9-1.
Kristina Zalewski pitched a five inning shutout in the opener, striking out 10 while giving up three hits and a walk.
Zalewski was given a comfortable four run lead in the first inning, thanks to Katie Alexander's grand slam home run. Saline added a run in the second and nine runs in the fifth. Saline pounded 11 hits off of Bedford pitching.
Alexander finished the game 4-for-4 with a home run and seven RBI. Laura Vaccaro was 2-for-2 with three RBI and three runs. Alyssa Heren was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI. Angel Schilke and Sam Bruley each had two hits and a stolen base.
Laura Vaccaro earned the win in the second game, going seven innings and giving up one run on three hits.
Saline scored a run in the first and then blew it open with four runs in the third and three in the fourth.
Vaccaro helped her cause at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Sam Bruley went 3-for-3 and scored three runs to go with an RBI. Angel Schilke was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Kaylee Harmon was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a stolen base and a sacrifice bunt.
