Saline Athletic Director Earns MIAAA Award

Saline Area Schools Athletic Director Rob White has been named Regional Athletic Director Rob White received the Region 6 Athletic Director of the Year by the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

The award is presented on an annual basis to athletic directors based on their dedicated service, leadership and special contributions to their local and regional levels of interscholastic athletic administration. White received the award at the MIAAA winter conference in Traverse City over the weekend.

Saline Area Schools Superintendent Scot Graden said the recognition is well deserved.

“Mr. White had led our Athletic Department during a period of unprecedented success.  His Athletic Department has produced numerous state, regional, and league championships the last several years. Under his direction, the department has increased the number of programs and student-athlete participation is at an all-time high,” Graden said.

Graden added that White has done an excellent job using digital media to promote Saline Athletics and the work done by Saline’s student athletes.

“One area that Mr. White particularly excels is the use of digital technology and social media to promote and raise awareness about our student-athletes. The Athletic Department website, Facebook Page, and Twitter are used by our community to follow our Hornets in action and to get important schedule details,” Graden said.

White has been an administrator at Saline Area Schools for 12 years. After five years as assistant principal, he became athletic director. Last year, he took on assistant principal duties again while remaining athletic director.

White said it was an honor to receive the MIAAA award, but he said the credit goes to many others.

“I think this reward is a direct reflection of the quality of our coaches, our student athletes and the community for their dedication to interscholastic athletics,” White said. “It’s an honor just to lead this athletic department and get to work every day with an incredible group of dedicated professionals.”

In the last year, Saline High School athletics is enjoying a banner year in 2012-13.  In the fall, the boys and girls cross country teams won league and regional championships, while the girls finished third in the state. The girls swim team won the SEC and was third in the state. The football team won the SEC Red and won a district championship. The girls’ golf team won the SEC title and finished 7th in the state. This winter, the boys’ swim and dive team won their fourth straight state title and fourth straight SEC Red title. The girls’ basketball team won their district championship. This spring, expectations will be high for the defending SEC and regional champion track and field teams. The boys’ baseball team is also looking for another final four appearance in Battle Creek. The girls’ soccer team is aiming at its third straight district championship.

Saline’s student athletes shine in the classroom, too. Adam Whitener, Kelly Hall and Kristin Nicole Green were among 13 students at Class A schools who will receive scholarships through the MHSAA’s Scholar-Athlete Award Program. No other Class A High School had more than one winner.

White is resident of Saline where he lives with his wife, Dawn, and their two children, Jake and Emma.
