Single Vehicle Crash Closes Henry Street in Downtown Saline

A section of West Henry Street remained closed Saline Wednesday afternoon after a vehicle crashed into a utility pole.

About 10:50 a.m., a distracted driver ran off the road and struck a pole. The driver was not injured, according to Saline Fire Chief Craig Hoeft. The impact severed the utility pole, according to Saline Police Sgt. Jay Basso. In fact, the vehicle was the only thing keeping the pole upright, Basso said.

The city shut down Harris Street between Hannah Court and Monroe Street.

"The pressure of the damaged pole was causing stress on the other poles, so we decided to close down that stretch of road," Basso said.

At 4 p.m., crews from Frontier were still working on Henry Street.

Basso said there were no charges pending as a result of the crash. Alcohol was not a factor, he said.
