Drunk Driving Suspected as Car Crashes into South Ann Arbor Street Home

Police suspect a woman was driving drunk after she crashed her car into a Saline home Sunday evening.

The Saline Police Department and Saline Area Fire Department were dispatched to the scene of the crash shortly after 9 p.m.

According to SPD Sgt. Jay Basso, a woman was driving a Chevy Cruze down Willis Avenue, approaching the Ann Arbor Street intersection, when she went through the intersection, struck a boulder and then smashed into the side of a home on the 700 block of South Ann Arbor Street.

The woman was transported by Huron Valley Ambulance to University of Michigan Hospital for treatment of injuries. She was transported to the hospital in unstable condition, according to HVA Spokesperson Joyce Williams.

Police suspect drunk driving, Basso said.

“Charges are pending the results of lab tests from the blood draw,” he said.

Nobody in the house was injured, but the house suffered substantial damage, Basso said.

“The room it struck was the daughter’s bedroom and she was five minutes away from going to bed,” Basso said.

Basso said when the car blew through the intersection it hit a curb and then hit a boulder. The boulder hit the car next door and rebounded and broke an egress window.
