Rentschler, Park Lead Hornets as Saline Runs Past Northville

 

The Lady Hornets cross country team racked up another big win Saturday at the Jackson Invitational.

Abby Rentschler finished second overall to lead Saline to a 20-point victory over Northville (30-50) in the 23-team field.

Saline placed four girls in the top seven.

Gloria Park was fourth overall in 18:33, setting her all-time best. Freshman Gillian Walter also had a big race, finishing sixth in 18:59. Elianna Shwayder was seventh in 18:59. Lauren Green completed Saline’s scoring, finishing 11th in 19:10. Alyssa Cummings (13th, 19:16) and Hannah Cummings (17th, 19:22) also had strong races for Saline.

In all, Saline’s nationally ranked cross country program took seven of the top 17 spots in the 158-girl race. Saline’s average time was 18:52.

Saline Second at Sterling State Park

At Sterling State Park Saturday, the Saline girls placed third overall, behind Churchill and Brighton. Saline, with 50 points, was 13 points back of the first-place team from Churchill.

Saline placed three girls in the top 10. They were led by Haleigh Cummings (4th, 19:44), Lillie Phelps (5th, 19:44), and Kelly Hall (9th, 19:59). Jenny Kise (16th, 20:28) and Mara VanSickle (21st, 20:56) rounded out the Saline top 5. Danielle Fillmore (22nd, 22:58) and Alexa Reyst (25th, 21:03) set season best times.
