Aaarrrr! Library events, ahoy!

For nine years, pirate language enthusiasts have been uniting world-wide on Sept. 19 to celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

While some people may question the need for such a day, the organizers behind this day have answered “Why not? Talking like a pirate is fun. It’s really that simple.” Activities for this day range from addressing friends as “me hearties!” to sing-a-longs and costume parties.

For those who find themselves less than fluent in Pirate English, the Saline District Library offers a Pirate English language course through the Mango Languages database (http://libraries.mangolanguages.com/saline/start). The official International Talk Like a Pirate Day website (http://www.talklikeapirate.com) delves into the history of the day and is a veritable treasure chest of pirate language tips and information.

This week’s calendar for the Saline District Library is quite full! In the youth department, in-person registration for the Kaleidoscope Stories & Craft program “Swirl by Swirl” begins and storytimes will be resuming. Call or stop by the youth reference desk for more information. There is still room for teens (grades 6-12) to sign up for the Sharpie Art program on Saturday, Sept.r 22 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Choose a t-shirt or flip-flops and create something unique! For those who would like some help delving into searching the Internet, Thursday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m. is an Introduction to the Internet course. To sign up for teen and adult events, contact the adult reference desk.

For more information on library events and resources, stop by the Saline District Library website (http://www.salinelibrary.org) or contact us by phone at (734) 429-5450.
