Saline Board of Education Approves New Gym Floor at Saline High School

Ella Stemmer and Jake Caldwell will light up a new-look gym at Saline High School next winter.

The Saline Board of Education approved a $54,615 bid to sand, paint and finish the main gym floor at Saline High School. The bid was awarded to Wixom-based Foster Specialty Floors.

Basketball was a focus, Clary said. The floor was updated to include a coach's box, for example. In recent years, school officials have taped the floor to help coaches stay out of trouble with officials.

"We wanted to freshen up the floor and put an emphasis on basketball," Clary said.

The gym will be multifunctional to meet the needs of instructors and community education. New markings will make it easier for pickleball, Clary said.

The colors will obviously represent Saline's school colors.

Foster Specialty Floors have worked with the district before. Foster transformed the auxiliary gym - now considered home for the volleyball program. The company has also worked at Saline Middle School and Pleasant Ridge.

Clary said the company has always performed on budget and on schedule.

Superintendent Scot Graden said the project is paid for with bond project dollars.
