Saline Police Officer Andrew Whited Sworn In Before City Council

 

The newest member of the Saline Police Department was sworn in at Monday’s city council meeting.

Andrew Whited, a native of Monroe, was introduced by Police Chief Jerrod Hart and sworn in by Clerk Terri Royal.

His fiance, Ali, pinned the badge to his uniform during the ceremony as their daughter, Amelia, was watched by grandparents.

Whited has a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice with a minor in counseling from the University of Toledo. He previously worked for the Waterville Police Department in Ohio.

Hart said Whited stood out during the interview process.

“Throughout the interview process. Andrew has displayed honesty integrity and compassion for others along with a passion for community service,” Hart said. “He really rose above all of the other applicants proved himself worthy of being a police officer in our wonderful community here in Saline.”

Whited comes from a family of law enforcement officers. His father, Ronald, retired as a deputy with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department. His brother, Kyle, works for the Waterville Police Department.

While introducing his family, Whited said his father was the reason he entered law enforcement.

Following the remarks, Whited was joined by fellow officers. Each raised their right hand and repeated a pledge, led by Chief Hart. They pledged to never betray their badge, to serve with integrity, to have the courage to hold themselves and others accountable, to uphold community values and to uphold the Constitution of the United States and State of Michigan.

Following the pledge, Officer Whited shook hands with and introduced himself to members of city council.
