BASKETBALL: Stemmer, Bentley Lead Saline to Win at Skyline

Ella Stemmer scored 24 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as Saline defeated Skyline, 63-22, in varsity girls basketball action at Skyline Friday.

Stemmer also had five steals as the Hornets improved to 3-2 halfway through the SEC Red season. Saline improved to 10-2 overall.

Senior Steffi Bentley scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds and had three steals. Brielle Eugeni continued her strong play with nine points, two rebounds and a pair of steals. Sophie Canen (seven points, three steals), Liz Sekerak (two points, five rebounds, three assists), Natalie Sweetland (two points, seven rebounds) and Ashytyn Mosingo (two points) also scored for Saline. Amera Boyd grabbed four rebounds, Emily Wilczynski had three assists and Beth Ann Ford grabbed three rebounds.

Saline was down 11-10 after the first quarter but shook off the Eagles with a 21-point second quarter.

Saline finished the first half of their SEC Red schedule with an overtime loss to Bedford and a late loss to a top-ranked Huron squad.

Saline will look to avenge its early-season loss to Bedford on Tuesday when they host the Kicking Mules.

In junior varsity action, Saline defeated Skyline 68-8. Ella Dean scored 14 points to lead Saline. Kailee Cahill scored 11 points. 9 other Hornets scored for Saline.
