REPORT: State Rep. Rebekah Warren Arrested for Suspected Drunk Driving

Michigan State Rep. Rebekah Warren, D-Ann Arbor, was arrested by Auburn Hills Police for suspected drunk driving, according to the Detroit News.

Drivers on I-75 called police to report a driver weaving in and out of lanes and an officer called observed the driver cross several lanes of traffic and striking a guard rail before police stopped the car.

The driver "failed" field sobriety tests and was arrested after she refused to take a preliminary breath test, police told the Detroit News. After the driver refused a blood test, Police obtained a search warrant. Charges are pending.

Warren issued a statement Friday.

"Last night, I was stopped in Auburn Hills following a gathering in Detroit. I made a stupid mistake; I drank alcohol and got into my vehicle to drive. I apologize to those impacted by my actions. Most importantly, I am extremely grateful that I did not hurt anyone," Warren stated. “I appreciate the Auburn Hills police who stopped me last night and the professionalism and dignity with which I was treated by everyone at the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department. I take full responsibility for my actions, will cooperate fully in the ongoing investigation and will do everything I can to guarantee that this never happens again.”

Warren's 55th District includes Pittsfield and York townships. Her 55th District seat was the subject of much speculation in 2018, with rumors suggesting Warren would take a job in Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's administration, and that potential candidates to run in her spot included Pittsfield Township Supervisor Mandy Grewal and County Commissioner Felicia Brabec. Warren put rumors to rest, saying she planned to serve her two years in the house.

Warren, who also served the Saline area as State Senator, is term-limited and cannot seek re-election.
