Catherine Spackey, 87, Former Elementary School Teacher, Loved To Make People Laugh

Catherine Frances Spackey (Frances) 87, of Saline, Michigan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, in Ann Arbor surrounded by her family. Frances was born January 30, 1932 in Detroit to the late Bat and Catherine (O’Shea) Corcoran.  She graduated from Wayne State University in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree.  

On April 7, 1953 she married Melvin Claude Spackey in Detroit.  She is survived by her children: Catherine (Robert) Scull of Chelsea, Eric (Nelsa) of North Carolina, Thomas (Helen) of Brighton; eight grandchildren: Justin (Vanessa), Amanda (Dillon), Natasha, Marika, Arianna (Howard), Elena, Brittany (Conor), and Amelia and two great grandchildren: Lia and Ashlyn.  She is also survived by sisters Maureen and Joan.  She was preceded in death by her brother Jack and sister Noreen.  

Frances was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church for more than 30 years.  She worked as an elementary school teacher before having children and later worked in the healthcare field at various area hospitals.  Upon retirement, she joined Elderwise where she organized and lead various classes.  

Frances enjoyed writing short stories and poetry.  She loved to dance and host parties, and most of all, she loved to make people laugh. A Memorial Mass for Frances will take place on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Saline with a gathering from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to the Huron Valley Humane Society or the American Cancer Society and envelopes will be available at the church.
