Alice Kitchen   (8/14/1939   -    5/11/2019)

Alice was born in Staunton, Virginia to William and Mary Ellen Payne.    She graduated from Marshall College with a teaching degree and moved to Michigan where she met and married her husband Robert Kitchen in 1964.   She raised a son, Matthew William and a daughter, Mary Ellen in Davison, Michigan.   She and Robert enjoyed spending their time together until his death in 1996.    She was able to start a new chapter in her life, moving to Saline, Michigan in 1997 to be close to her son.    She was active and vigorous up to the time of her death and died in her home peacefully surrounded by love.    Alice was a lover of gardening and created miniature paradises wherever she lived, landscaping her gardens with thousands of rocks and boulders she personally collected from across Michigan.   Her beautiful creations were a piece of heaven on earth, populated with wonderful smells, flirting dragonflies and chirping birds.    She was a strong Christian woman who held her faith closely, and supported numerous charities including a lifelong commitment to Christian Children’s Fund, sponsoring dozens of children overseas to have better lives in the path of God.  As part of a program through her Church, she knitted hundreds of hospital hats for newborns, blankets, and other wonderful creations.  Alice was also a supporter of the Humane Society and animal welfare; and was surrounded by cats and dogs her whole life.    She was preceded in death by her brother, Herbert and sister, Dorothy.  She is survived by her son and daughter, and three grandchildren.    A memorial service will be held on Sunday June 2 at 2 pm, with visitation afterward, at Holy Faith Church, 6299 Ann Arbor-Saline Road, Saline, MI 48176.
