The Saline Hornets girls’ softball team opened their season on the road Wednesday afternoon and routed the Ypsilanti Community Grizzlies 23-0 in a game called after three innings.
The Hornets jumped out to an early lead punching across five runs in the first inning. Saline scored seven more runs in the second and another eleven runs in the third.
Leading the offensive attack for Saline was Alex Pace who had two hits, four RBI and three runs scored. Kelsey Alexander picked up two hits, an RBI and four runs scored. Other Hornets with two hits included Elaina Walker, Emma Schwartzenberger, Dani Cobello and Isabelle Stephenson.
On the mound for the Hornets was Alex Pace, who threw a three-inning no hitter, striking out seven, walking two. The Hornets open their season with a win and a 1-0 record.
The Hornets will get back into action on Saturday, hosting a tournament at Saline High School. Saline will take on Belleville in a 9 a.m. game. They will then face Regina at 12 p.m. and Carlson at 3 p.m.
