Fletcher Whitley threw a five-inning, no-hit shutout as Saline defeated Jackson Parma Western, 10-0 Monday. Saline won the second game of the doubleheader, 23-2.
Whitley struck out 11 and walked one. The Hornets scored 10 runs on four hits and eight walks. They were aided by five errors.
Chance Bezeau drove in two runs. John Barnett and Bobby Butler each scored two runs. Barnett, Augie Hutchison, Butler and Josh Martino had hits for Saline.
Hutchison started the second game and pitched three innings, allowing two unearned runs on three walks and no hits. He struck out five. Saline made three errors. Zach Socha allowed a hit and struck out three in one scoreless inning of relief.
The Hornets scored 23 runs on 13 hits and 12 walks. Dallas Casey went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. Dru Campbell (two hits, two walks) and Socha (one hit, two walks) scored four runs each. Bezeau, Cal Thompson and Whitley each had two his. Kendal Cherry had a double, two RBI and three runs scored.
