The Viva Voce Youth Choir is now in its third season, and it is making a strong impact on its members as well as the surrounding community. The choir focuses on excellence in choral singing as well as service projects to connect singers to each other and to their communities.
Viva Voce has been busy planning and completing service projects this season. Most recently, all three ensembles spent an afternoon assembling over 40 fleece blankets to be donated to Alpha House in Ann Arbor. Viva Voce Youth Choir can be seen in various places throughout Washtenaw County during the holiday season. After Thanksgiving the choir will be making cards for nursing home residents and delivering them when they perform at StoryPoint, the Evangelical Home, and Linden Square in mid-December. Viva Voce can also be seen walking in the Saline Holiday Parade on Saturday, December 1, where they will be singing “Silent Night” at the parade grandstand. The Amabile ensemble will be performing on the Lucy Ann Lance Hometown Christmas Show on Saturday, December 8. The show is broadcast live from Briarwood Mall and can be heard on 1290 WLBY, and it will be rebroadcast in its entirety on Saturday, December 22.
On Sunday, December 16, Viva Voce will hold this season’s first concert, “Join the Song.” The performance will begin at 7:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, 1432 Washtenaw Ave. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $8.00 by credit card at www.vivavoceyouthchoir.org/tickets/ or at the door for $10.00. Only cash or check will be accepted at the door.
Viva Voce Youth Choir was founded in September, 2016 by former Saline Area Schools vocal music teacher, Hannah Bingham. Viva Voce is comprised of 125 singers in grades 2-9. This season a third ensemble, Brio, was added to the choir. Brio consists of children in grades 2-4 with little or no choir experience. They join Viva Voce’s intermediate choir, Amabile, and advanced choir, Cantabella. Rehearsals are held weekly at First Presbyterian Church of Saline, 143 E. Michigan Ave. For more information on the choir or purchasing concert tickets, please visit www.vivavoceyouthchoir.org.
